2 Corinthians 1 v 9 – 10 says “Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves, but on God who raises the dead. He delivered us from such a deadly peril, and He will deliver us. On Him we have set our hope, that He will deliver us again.”
Sometimes we face things in life which serve as a reminder than we cannot do anything. The motivational speakers, self help books and life coaches love to explain how we can do whatever we put our minds to, that we tell ourselves we’re the best and we can do it. But the reality is, there are some things which we simply cannot solve. There are some situations which we cannot do anything about to change. But God can.
Sometimes it takes for us to get to the ‘point of death’ to remember that God is in control, not us. Not literally, hopefully, but sometimes it takes us to surrender ourselves or situations to God before He acts. It’s like God is waiting for us to simply trust in Him.
Maybe you’ve been there, I certainly have. Praying earnestly for something; declaring Scripture about it; pushing doors, making calls, trying every which way… to no avail. Eventually I give up, surrender it to God, exhausted, frustrated and tired. Then all of a sudden, God moves and things change. It’s not that God hasn’t heard our prayers, it’s more that we haven’t trusted Him. Each time we try and strive for something ourselves, it’s like we’re taking it back off God. We pray and give it to Him, but feel we need to ‘help Him out’ a little along the way.
There is no situation too hard for God.
There is no situation impossible for God.
He has saved us, redeemed us, and made a way for us. God can work all things for His good and glory in our lives. But God is calling us to be a people who wholeheartedly trust in Him – even when His timing is not our timing; even when in our mind the situation is too hard. He has brought us through in the past, “He will bring us through again”.
As we head into summer months, the blog will be updated less frequently, rather than weekly. I do hope these short reflections have given space to prayerfully chew over some thoughts, and I hope they have been a source of encouragement and nourishment through the lockdown. Pastor Lee.
