John 3 v 8
“The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know when it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
The Holy Spirit’s leading and guiding is essential in our lives and we often talk about desiring to be, or being led by the Spirit. Yet the Holy Spirit can nudge and prompt us to do things at any given moment, the question is, are we truly open and willing to respond?
Are we willing to change our plans like the wind in order to be used by God in one situation one moment, and elsewhere the next, or do we cling on to what we like, to what we’re comfortable doing? In essence, do we mind being interrupted from our day to day comfortable routine?
In Acts, Philip sees this in reality, feeling called to go to the road, then to stay near the chariot of the Ethiopian Eunuch, not just for a moment, but for long enough to hear him reading a chapter of Isaiah (how odd must that have been for both Philip and the Eunuch!). After the opportunity came to share about Jesus, and after baptising the Eunuch, Philip was literally whisked away by the Holy Spirit and dropped somewhere else!
If we are born of the Spirit (which as followers of Jesus, we are) and if we are filled with the Spirit, then we must be willing to be led by Him.
Oh that we would live lives completely open to the Spirit’s leading! To go where He says, to speak to that person whom He puts on our hearts, to boldly and obediently do as He calls.
